Stifani Brothers

Two filmmakers. One visual language. Luca and Gabriele Stifani move between directing, cinematography, camera, sound, editing and visual development—building stories from the first instinct to the final frame.

The story continues

Built to cross disciplines.

Luca and Gabriele Stifani are Italian twin filmmakers based in London. Long before PINTA had a name, they were learning how images are built: cutting handmade VHS edits, creating graphic advertising and observing people, gesture and routine in Neviano, Salento. That early curiosity travelled with them to the United Kingdom, where media-production training at Northumbria University gave their shared visual instinct technical discipline.

From their first jointly written and directed short, Amok, film was never just one department. Acting, contemporary dance and live performance trained their attention on bodies, vulnerability and trust; sport sharpened timing and anticipation; camera and sound taught them to notice moments that cannot be repeated. Those experiences became one multidisciplinary practice.

Instead of building two separate careers, they learned to work as a responsive filmmaking unit. Each understands the other’s framing, rhythm, coverage and editorial intention. Direction, cinematography, camera, production sound, editing and creative development are therefore connected stages of the same story—not a list of unrelated skills.

Their work grew from independent shorts and arts projects into international factual, documentary and commercial productions. Across work connected with Amazon Prime Video, Netflix, PBS, CBC, DAZN and other partners, they have filmed elite sport, public-health stories, culture, music, investigative subjects and intimate human moments.

Today PINTA brings that history together. They direct and develop films while remaining close to craft, and use AI for cinematic visualisation, treatments, pre-production and commercial storytelling as an extension of human judgement—not a substitute for it. Whether the project is large or small, their method remains collaborative: listen closely, prepare deeply and build the image around the truth of the story.

Not two separate careers—one shared way of seeing.

Recognition earned inside the work.

Luca and Gabriele contributed to All or Nothing: Manchester City—Luca in production sound and Gabriele across camera, media management and editorial support. The Amazon Prime Video series was nominated for Outstanding Serialized Sports Documentary at the 40th Annual Sports Emmy Awards.

The distinction belongs to the production; their credit is part of the team that built it. That is the way they describe their career too: ambitious work made through trust, responsibility and close collaboration.

A career in motion

From Salento to international sets.

  1. Beginnings

A childhood fascination with cinema in southern Italy became formal training in media production in Newcastle—and then a working life in London.

  2. Independent language

They wrote, directed, produced and edited Amok, programmed at AsterFest in 2007, while developing a practice across experimental film, effects and artist-led work.

  3. Bodies in the frame

Years in contemporary dance and performance expanded their understanding of rhythm, physical storytelling and the needs of performers—experience that now sharpens how they direct people for camera.

  4. Global factual production

All or Nothing: Manchester City and Fernando placed them inside fast, intimate international documentary units where camera and sound had to anticipate unrepeated moments.

  5. A wider field

Credits now reach across Netflix, PBS, CBC, DAZN and international branded work—from public health and culture to elite sport, music and investigative documentary.

  6. PINTA today

Their studio brings the full range together: director-led filmmaking, cinematography, production sound, post-production and AI-assisted visual development, with story and human judgement at the centre.

Why multidisciplinary matters

Every role informs the next.

01 · StoryDirection

Performance, tone and visual intention are treated as one decision.

02 · ImageCinematography

Light and composition stay close to character, place and emotional truth.

03 · PresenceSound

Production sound is not a technical afterthought; it is point of view, atmosphere and memory.

04 · RhythmEdit & development

Thinking ahead to the cut shapes coverage, continuity and new AI-assisted ways to explore a film before production.

A note on performance

Understanding both sides of the lens.

Their experience in acting, contemporary dance and live performance is part of the filmmaking—not the headline of it. It gives them an instinct for bodies in space, the vulnerability of being watched and the trust a director must create before a truthful moment can happen.
